Hi, I’m Danny…
I shoot strangers in the streets of Singapore.
I’m a weekend photographer, and I’ve been taking photos of strangers in Orchard Road since mid June 2008 (about the same time I moved from the Philippines to Singapore). This is my photography blog where I’ll be talking about my experiences so far in shooting strangers. This site also shows some of my favorite shots I’ve gotten in Orchard Road. I’ve been trying to create an overall image of the beauty and energy of Orchard Road through the different characters and scenarios found in this busy street of Singapore … and, more importantly, have fun in the process.
Why I shoot in the streets…
Out here, nothing is prepared. Nothing cooperates with you.. not the weather, not the subjects, not the situation. You have to make do with what’s available. That’s a very big challenge. But on few occasions when all the elements just come together, and you’re at the right place at the right time, the feeling of ‘getting that perfect shot’ just doesn’t compare to anything else.
My photography heroes…
To name a few: Philip-Lorca DiCorcia, Garry Winogrand, Trent Parke, Martin Parr, William Klein, Fan Ho, and Daido Moriyama. I haven’t really absorbed their style for most of my photos, but they were big inspirations still.
Other than taking candid street photos…
I would like to venture into the world of portraiture. I want to be able to capture the personality of a person in a single frame. That’s something I’m currently trying to work on right now by walking the streets, approaching strangers, and asking them if I could take their portraits. Aside from photography…
I design website applications for the Information Services department of a global audio equipment manufacturing company based in Singapore. I’ve been working in the web & graphic design profession for about 10 years. I’m currently working on my new design portfolio site, so please watch out for that.
